As I get used to the corporate world, I’m learning to let go of things that don’t serve me in the long run. And honestly, maybe that’s what growing up means. Quietly, in small moments, choosing better for myself, deciding to prioritise my health for a better future ahead, even when it’s not as exciting.

I’ve always been a foodie. Spicy street food, sugary desserts, late-night indulgences, I loved it all, and a part of me still does. That might never change, but my relationship with food has. Now I have become mindful, all thanks to growing up and work life.

Corporate life, with its desk lunches and back-to-back meetings, forced me to pause and reflect on what I was putting into my body. Somewhere between deadlines and exhaustion, I realised I didn’t just want food that tasted good, I wanted food that made me feel good from within. And that’s how I found my way to simple, fresh, wholesome meals, which are full of nutrition and provide me with a health-conscious lifestyle.

Now, I genuinely crave the taste of juicy fruits and those bowls of fresh salads. There’s something deeply satisfying about a bowl of beetroot, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, hummus, and pomegranate. It’s not just food, it feels like nourishment, a part of self-care. I still eat what I love, but I’ve become mindful. Overly oily roadside meals? Not every day anymore.

Being Independent also taught me the importance of ghr ka khana, the classic and eternal dal chawal or just a simple bowl full of freshly sauteed veggies cooked by my mother. I love coming back to it after a long, hectic day. It reminds me that food doesn’t always have to be fancy to be fulfilling.

With time, I’ve learned about balance, protein-rich meals, portion control, early dinners, and never skipping breakfast. I’ve learned to respect my body. Because the truth is, a healthy life matters more than a wealthy one.

I can feel the difference now. Eating right energises me, makes me look forward to the day. Junk food, on the other hand, slows me down. I just wish I had realised this earlier. Turns out, prioritising health can be just as delicious.
