Chaitra Navratri 2026 Ghatasthapana Puja Vidhi

For Ghatasthapana during Navratri, the north-east direction (Ishaan Kon) is considered the most auspicious. It is best to place the idol of Maa Durga and the sacred Kalash in this area. While performing the puja, you should face towards the east or north. Ensure the Kalash is placed on a clean wooden platform, preferably made of sandalwood, and keep the surrounding area perfectly clean.

The process of Ghatasthapana is quite simple. First, take a Kalash made of clay, copper, or brass. Tie a sacred thread (Mouli) around it and draw a Swastika symbol. Fill it with Ganga Jal and add rice, a coin, betel nut, turmeric root, and a lotus seed. Place mango or Ashoka leaves at the mouth of the pot, then place a coconut wrapped in a red cloth (Chunari) on top. Finally, position the Kalash near Chowki where the idol or photo of Mata Rani is placed to complete the ritual.
