Janaki Jayanti 2026: Significance
According to the Hindu legends, Mata Sita emerged from the earth when King Janaka was ploughing the field to alleviate a drought. She was called Sita because she was found in the furrow made by the plough, and Janaki because she was the daughter of King Janaka. This day symbolises feminine power and resilience. Observing a fast on this day is believed to bring happiness to married life, help in finding a suitable spouse, and bring prosperity and blessings of Goddess Lakshmi to the home.
Janaki Jayanti 2026: Rituals
The devotees must take a bath before sunrise on Janaki Jayanti and take a vow to keep the fast. Then, spread a red cloth on a platform and keep the idols of Lord Shri Ram and Goddess Sita on the cloth. Perform the abhishekam of the idol of Shri Sita Ram and offer sindoor, bindi, and bangles to Maa Sita. Offer kheer and white-coloured sweets to Goddess Sita, and chant - Om Janakivallabhaya Namah. Lastly, perform the aarti of Lord Shri Ram and Goddess Sita using a ghee diya and incense.
