Women's Hockey Asian Champions Trophy 2023: India are set to host the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 in Ranchi, Jharkhand from October 27 to November 5. The top six teams of the continent are featuring in the seventh edition of the tournament.
India are hosting the continental event for the first time. India, Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand will compete for the coveted title in Ranchi. Japan are the defending champions of the Women's Asian Champions Trophy. They defeated Korea 2-1 to clinch the title in Donghae, Korea in 2021.
Indian women's hockey team lifted the title in 2016 and finished runners-up in 2013 and 2018. South Korea are the most successful side in the competition's history with three titles while Japan have lifted the championship two times in 2013 and 2021.
China, Malaysia and Thailand will eye their maiden title in Ranchi. China will enter the competition as favourites having won the gold medal in Hangzhou Asian Games 2023 recently. South Korea settled with the silver medal while India finished third to claim a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, hosts India (7th) will be the highest-ranked side in the tournament followed by China (10), Japan (11), Korea (12), Malaysia (18) and Thailand (29). Teams finishing top four in the table after the group stage will secure semi-final spots.
