A seven-year-old girl was found dead inside a water tank at her grandparents’ house in Hyderabad on Wednesday, with her hands tied behind her back, raising suspicions of foul play. Her body was recovered a day after she went missing.

The victim, identified as Humeyni Sumaiya, had gone to her maternal grandmother’s house near Khana Masjid in Chawni Nade Ali Baig, Madannapet area, with her parents, Mohammad Azeem and Shabana Begum, on Tuesday, according to an NDTV report.

Sumaiya was reported missing on Tuesday evening, prompting her family to immediately lodge a complaint with the police. An overnight search involving multiple police teams, investigators, and concerned neighbours failed to locate the girl.

Mother Found The Body

The tragic discovery came on Wednesday afternoon when Sumaiya's mother returned to her grandmother's house for a final check. To her horror, she found the child's lifeless body floating inside the rooftop water tank. The police were alerted immediately.

"We are investigating all angles including that of any family dispute. It is a definite case of murder, and we have altered the sections from missing to murder," police inspector Anjaneyulu said, according to the NDTV report. 

Body Sent For Post-Mortem

The police conducted a panchanama and sent the body for a postmortem. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrator. Further details are awaited.

In a separate incident, a five-year-old boy was beheaded in front of his mother by a man believed to be mentally unstable in Madhya Pradesh on September 26. Eyewitnesses reported that the accused, 25-year-old Mahesh, arrived on a bike and entered the home of resident Kalu Singh, whom he had never met. Without warning, Mahesh picked up a sharp spade-like tool lying inside the house and attacked the boy, severing his neck and striking his shoulder, leaving the body mutilated.

The child’s mother, who tried desperately to save him, was injured and left in deep shock, her cries echoing throughout the village. Neighbours rushed in and, in a wave of anger, apprehended the accused. He was severely beaten before the police arrived and later died en route to the hospital, according to authorities.
