In a shocking revelation, Jada Pinkrtt Smith has stated that she and husband-actor Will Smith have been separated since 2016. According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Jada revealed the same in her new memoir, Worthy, where she also opened up about the status of her relationship. She further added that they are not technically divorced and also not planning to take the legal step.

In a clip from her upcoming NBC News primetime special alongside Hoda Kotb, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed that the reason for not disclosing their separation earlier was that they simply weren't "prepared" to do so. She elaborated, stating that they were in the process of working out the dynamics of their partnership and trying to find common ground between the two of them.

Earlier, during the Red Table Talk, Jada had said, “I got into an entanglement with August,”, explaining then that the superstar couple “were going through a very difficult time.” She added, “then there was the Oscars slap.”

Oscars Slapgate Incident

At the 94th Academy Awards held on March 27, 2022, actor Will Smith made an unexpected appearance on stage and physically confronted comedian Chris Rock by delivering an apparent open-palm strike to Rock's face. This startling incident occurred while Chris Rock was in the midst of presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature. The catalyst for the altercation was a jest made by Rock about Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who had been shaving her head since 2021 due to her battle with alopecia areata.

Following the physical encounter, Will Smith promptly returned to his seat while vocally expressing his displeasure with Rock, using strong language. In response, Chris Rock briefly engaged with Smith but continued and concluded his presentation without further disruption.
