A terminal at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport was briefly evacuated on Wednesday due to an escalator fire, New York officials reported.

The fire at JFK’s Terminal 8 was reported around 7 a.m., according to the Fire Department of New York.

Steve Burns, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, stated that four people were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

Burns mentioned that terminal operations resumed by 8:15 a.m., and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

A passenger's video posted on X from inside a halted plane showed fire trucks converging on the tarmac. This incident occurred just days after a massive IT outage caused over 5,000 flights worldwide to be cancelled or delayed, bringing global travel to a standstill.

According to an update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, Microsoft devices crashed, causing chaos at airports, schools, hospitals, and shops.

The number of flights affected by today's fire is currently unknown.
