In a significant rescue operation, the Greater Noida police saved Shashank Gupta, the son of Ghaziabad stone merchant Manish Gupta, who had been kidnapped earlier this month. The police arrested two men, Mohit Gupta and Alok Yadav, in connection with the case.
According to ACP Sarthak Sengar, the kidnapping took place on September 9, followed by the victim's family filing an FIR on September 10. The victim had left his grandfather, Ram Prakash Gupta, in Indirapuram to go to Noida to have his phone battery replaced, where he was forcibly abducted and transported to Chhabramau in Kannauj district. His vehicle was later found abandoned in the Dankaur area using GPS tracking.
The kidnappers, Mohit Gupta, a taxi driver, and Alok Yadav, a spa centre owner, kidnapped Shashank to pay their debts. To execute the plan, the two observed the family closely before kidnapping the victim. The two demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore by contacting the family repeatedly via WhatsApp from stolen mobile phones.
The police, to rescue and arrest the two, set a trap by calling them to collect the ransom money in Jewar with the help of the victim’s family. Surveillance teams were deployed strategically near the canal at Ramner and on the Jewar-Khurja road. When the kidnappers arrived with Shashank to collect the ransom, they were surrounded by the police, leading to the safe rescue of the victim.
