Under the National Health Mission (NHM), recruitment for 1,694 MBBS doctor vacancies in Uttar Pradesh will be expedited, as per instructions from the Health Department's Principal Secretary, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma.

District officials have been instructed to conduct the appointment process in a mission-driven manner. The Chief Secretary has also confirmed that the selection process at the district level is already underway to address the shortage of doctors under NHM.

In addition to MBBS posts, several Ayush doctor positions also remain vacant. The authorities have been instructed to fill these vacancies through the respective District Health Committees.

In a letter issued to officials on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary also emphasised disaster preparedness in light of the monsoon season. Flood check posts will be set up in 539 highly flood-prone villages, and flood control rooms are to be made operational at both primary and community health centres. Ambulance services have also been directed to be fully activated.

The letter further instructs officials to maintain high alert and coordination with district administrations during the upcoming festive season, including Kanwar Yatra, Rakshabandhan, Independence Day, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi. All essential emergency services, especially ambulances, must ensure the availability of doctors and medical staff during this period.
