As many as five persons were killed in the last 24 hours as severe cold wave continues to grip Uttar Pradesh. Two people each died in Fatehpur and Kanpur Dehat while one farmer succumbed to the extreme weather conditions in Chitrakoot, as per Jagran.com. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for cold waves and dense fog in some districts. There is also a warning of hailstorms in some districts of western Uttar Pradesh for today.
On Monday, the maximum temperature in Lucknow was 17.7°C, which is 2.7°C lower than normal, while the minimum temperature was 7°C. On Tuesday, January 7, dense fog is expected to cover Lucknow late at night and in the morning, but the weather will clear up in the afternoon. No change in temperature is expected, with a maximum of 17°C and a minimum of 7°C. Many districts in the state will experience a cold day, and a warning for dense fog has been issued in some areas.

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for extremely cold days from January 7 to 8 for districts such as Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit.
At the same time, districts like Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Kannauj, Kanpur, Unnao, Raebareli, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur are likely to experience dense fog.
An alert for cold days and dense fog has been issued in Lucknow. A warning for thunder and hailstorms has been issued on January 7 for some districts in western Uttar Pradesh. These include Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Bijnor, Amroha, Rampur, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, where thunder and light rain or hailstorms are expected.
Meanwhile, Agra, Mathura, Firozabad and surrounding districts started the day with cold winds. The fog has cleared, but the bone-chilling cold is still making people shiver.
