Uttar Pradesh Project Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) has announced plans to develop an eco park near Samda Lake in Sohawal block, with an estimated budget of Rs 1.5 crore. The tender for the project has already been issued.

Three years ago, the Ayodhya Development Authority had launched an ambitious Rs 10 crore project to transform Samda Lake into Purvanchal’s most scenic and natural habitat for migratory birds.

A 6.50 km-long dam was constructed in the north and south directions, and over 32,000 saplings were planted along its banks at a cost of approximately Rs 85 lakh. However, due to a lack of maintenance, wild grass has overtaken the area, turning it into a shelter for wild animals.

Further negligence has led to road construction ballast being dumped along the dam’s path. Locals speculate that this may be for the expansion of the Suchita Ganj-Masodha road. The situation has been worsened by the absence of a dedicated watchman, as no facility was built for their stay.

Now, amid these challenges, UPPCL has proposed the construction of an eco park to enhance the area’s appeal. Assistant Engineer Ajay Kumar Mishra stated that the eco park will retain the lake’s natural form while making it more attractive for visitors.

However, he is unaware of the exact fund allocation for the project, as the financial approval lies with the Tourism Corporation. The state government has designated UPPCL as the nodal agency for such projects, and further details are expected at the government level.
