Navaratri 2023: One of the much-awaited festivals, Navaratri, is here and Indians are celebrating it in every jolly way possible. From dance performances to aartis, the Hindus are leaving no stone unturned in making the festival worth the wait. Aiming for something similar, the Surat District Cricket Association also organised a Garba event as the 9-day festival kicked off yesterday, October 15. However, the entire idea turned into a troll as most people did not appreciate the way the event was planned. Going for something unique, Gujarat’s Surat District Cricket Association held a Bicycle Garba. As the name suggests, the event involved participants playing Garba on bicycles. Donning shoes and white jerseys, devotees were seen high-fiving each other instead of using sticks. A video of the same was shared online, which went viral. Understandably, the idea did not sit well with netizens who began bashing the ‘lack of traditions’ in the event.

Navaratri is one of the most celebrated and hailed Hindu festivals that is dedicated to goddess Durga. The 9-day festival, this year, began on October 15 and will culminate on October 24.

The video was shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) on the official handle of the news agency ANI.

The video instantly went viral on social media. Most of the post’s comment box was flooded with irked reactions as many found the event unnecessary and hurtful to Hindu beliefs. Others joked about the idea and expressed how bizarre the celebration looked as it did not resemble a festive event. The post was shared today and garnered 85.3K views from people.

Taking to the comment box, people shared their views. “What next airplane garba?” a user asked. “Gujjus and their antiques,” said a second person. “Gujarat couldn't ask men to drive bicycles in the streets of Mumbai... how could they handle caaars here,” said a third person. “As a Gujarati, I feel like this completely destroys the essence of Navratri!” added a fourth person. “Hehe they're awesome,” lauded a fifth user. “Just to get in the news channels by doing something "hatt k"; they are crushing the original essence of garba,” said a sixth person.
