Viral Video: Alcohol, if not by all, it sure still is preferred by a majority of people when it comes to having fun or parting. The preference only gets stronger on a trip that might have a lot to do with nature. Going along with a somewhat similar belief, some men allegedly decided to enjoy some alcohol near the banks of the River Ganga, during their Rishikesh trip. However, what was supposed to be a ‘core trip memory’, turned into a ‘core lesson moment’ after they were caught by some locals. What happened next was something that left no one surprised; the men were reportedly beaten up with raft paddles for drinking at a ‘religious spot’.
A video of the same was shared online, which went viral. As per the viral post, before the scene became violent, the locals did ask the men to not drink near Ganga. However, turning to violence anyways, the men allegedly began to abuse locals. The abuse eventually triggered people, who were then seen beating the men up.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘himalayanhindu’. The post was captioned, “Some boys had come to Rishikesh to have fun. They were drinking alcohol while sitting on the banks of the river Ganga. When some people objected, they started abusing their mother and sister, after which a big argument broke out and they were beaten with blankets.”

The video went viral and somewhat left people divided. Some pointed out the ‘short distance’ between the river and the liquor shops being operated in the area, and asked people to question the state government instead, for granting the liquor licence to the said shops. Meanwhile, the rest agreed with the ‘punishment’ that the drunk received for drinking near a ‘holy river’. The video was shared yesterday and pulled more than 20K views from people.
Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “He made the mistake of drinking alcohol in a religious place, and people punished him. But it is also necessary to know how far is the government shop selling alcohol from Gangaji and in whose name the licence is,” a user said. “You did the right thing, if you want to drink then go and drink somewhere else, thanks to the boys who beat up the people,” added another.
“Our Uttarakhand government has given licences to many liquor shops and bars near famous temples near the banks of Ganga in Rishikesh and surrounding areas. Home delivery of non-vegetarian food is being done,” added a third user. “Job well done. Jagruk citizen helping UK police” added another.
