In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old Sikh woman was discovered dead inside a walk-in oven in the bakery department of a Walmart store in Halifax, Canada, police reported on Wednesday. 

The Halifax Police Department is now investigating the death of the woman, an employee at Walmart, who was found in a large walk-in oven in the bakery department on October 19.

"The woman, who was an employee of the store, was located in a large walk-in oven belonging to the store’s bakery department," the Halifax Police Department said in a statement.

Police stated that the investigation is complex and involves multiple partner agencies, indicating that it may take a considerable amount of time to complete.

"We encourage the public to be cautious about sharing unverified information on social media," the HRP stated in a release on Tuesday.

Stop-Work Order Issued for Walmart Bakery 

A representative from the province's labour department confirmed that a stop-work order has been issued for the bakery and one specific piece of equipment at the Walmart store.

Members of the local Sikh community expressed their devastation over the loss.

Balbir Singh, secretary of the Maritime Sikh Society, informed CBC News that the society has contacted the mother of the 19-year-old victim and learned that they originally hail from India and moved to Canada two to three years ago.

“It’s very tragic for us and her family, as she came here seeking a better future and lost her life,” stated Anmolpreet Singh from the Maritime Sikh Society, as reported by Global News. 

"We are devastated, and our thoughts are with our colleague and their family. Our priority is to care for our associates and ensure they receive the support they need," a Walmart spokesperson stated in a quote reported by Fox News Digital.
