Iran's military has released an animated video portraying the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the wake of the reported death of Iranian military official Sayyed Razi Mousavi. The senior adviser for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Syria was killed in an airstrike near Damascus, as confirmed by a state-run Iranian news outlet and corroborated by Reuters on Monday, December 25.
Mousavi, the chief coordinator of Iran's military alliance with Syria, had a pivotal role in the region where Israel has been conducting airstrikes for an extended period. Israel, sharing a northern border with Syria, claims its targets are affiliated with Iran.
The IRGC attributed Mousavi's death to an Israeli airstrike, a claim that the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) declined to comment on. IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated, "I won't comment on foreign reports, these or others in the Middle East."

The animated video portraying Netanyahu's assassination illustrates the killing through a time bomb planted under his desk.
Following Mousavi's death, Iran issued a stern warning to Israel. The IRGC stated that "the usurper and savage Zionist regime will pay for this crime." Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi asserted that Israel would "certainly pay the price," characterising Mousavi's death as "a sign of the Zionist regime's frustration and weakness in the region."
Representatives from Iran highlighted Mousavi's close association with the late Gen. Qassim Soleimani, head of Iran's elite Quds Force, who was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq in January 2020.
Mousavi, one of the oldest advisers of the IRGC in Syria, played a key role in coordinating the military alliance between Iran and Syria, having reportedly lived in Syria for up to 30 years. His office was situated within the Syrian Defense Ministry.
