How Will His Win Impact Indian-Americans?

If Ranjeev Puri gets elected as the Speaker, it would be a significant milestone in the representation of Indian Americans in state-level leadership. His win will also have a huge impact on crimes against India-origin people. He introduced legislation to expand protections against hate crimes in 2023, addressing issues related to vandalism and desecration of places of worship and how it can affect not just an individual but entire communities.

According to the American Voter Atlas, Michigan has approximately 1,27,000 residents of Indian origin, accounting for about 1.27 per cent of the state's population. Moreover, Puri's family were the ones who established the first Sikh gurdwara in Wisconsin. It was attacked in the 2012 Oak Creek shooting, killing seven people.
