German automobile giant Volkswagen has revealed a major safety improvement for the Taigun and Virtus, with six airbags now being offered as standard on all trim levels. It's interesting to note that this improvement is offered without raising prices, which is significant for the Indian market. This action comes after Skoda's recent decision to equip the Kushaq and Slavia with six airbags as standard. However, Skoda increased the prices of its models after the upgrade.

Only the top-of-the-line Topline trims and GT versions of the Taigun and Virtus were previously equipped with six airbags. Due to this update, this safety function is now available on the Comfortline and Highline trim levels in addition to special editions like the GT Edge, Sport, and Sound Edition.

Volkswagen has kept the prices of the two models the same, even after the update of the improved safety measures. The VW Virtus is available in India with its prices ranging between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakhs (ex-showroom). The VW Taigun is available in India with its prices ranging between Rs 11.70 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Taigun and Virtus have not changed mechanically. Both the models boast a 5-star Global NCAP safety ratings which were awarded with just two airbags. Both these models are equipped with some safety features such as electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and multi-collision braking system are standard.

Other competitors include the MG Astor, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara which do not offer six airbags as standard. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Virtus rivals the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Skoda Slavia, which all have six airbags as standard equipment.
