Essex batter Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape and is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9.
Das, 24, was arrested in August 2025 and was later released on bail. He was formally charged on July 23, 2026, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The right-handed batter, who has Bangladeshi roots, has played nine first-class matches and 29 List A games for Essex.

Das Has Not Played Since July
Das last featured for Essex in the One-Day Cup on July 21. He scored 29 in that match.
He was charged two days later and has not played for the county since.
The Metropolitan Police said the charges relate to a report concerning a woman who was allegedly raped in Brixton on March 30, 2024.
In a statement, the police said: “Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July 2026 with two counts of rape.”
Police also said the woman involved is continuing to receive support from specialist officers.
Essex Confirm Player Appeared In Court
Essex are scheduled to face Glamorgan on Thursday. Before the match, the county confirmed that one of its contracted players had recently appeared in court over an incident that took place away from cricket.

The club did not name the player in its statement.
“Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that a male member of the playing staff, currently under contract with the club, recently appeared in court in relation to an incident that took place outside club activities,” the county said.
Previous Case Involving Alex Hepburn
The latest development comes years after another English cricket case involving former Worcestershire allrounder Alex Hepburn.
Hepburn was charged with two counts of rape in 2017. He was convicted of rape in 2019 and received a five-year prison sentence.
After his release, Hepburn later approached Oswestry Cricket Club about training or playing for the team. However, the club’s committee decided against allowing him to join.
He did not return to professional cricket.
In September 2024, the Cricket Discipline Commission handed Hepburn a 10-year ban from playing cricket in England and Wales. The ban was backdated to October 30, 2021, the date of his release from prison.
