IND vs SA 2nd Test: The Indian Test team has been going through a tough time as they have lost their third Test series ever since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach, and South Africa won the two-match Test series by 2-0 in Guwahati.
In this time frame, the host suffered a home Test series loss to New Zealand by 3-0 and then lost 3-0 to Australia, and has now lost to South Africa. In his guidance, India's Test record is 7 wins, 10 losses, and 2 ties after playing 19 matches, and that has led to their win percentage going down to 36.82.
The BCCI won't be replacing Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian cricket team anytime soon.
“The BCCI will not rush into taking any decision; the team is in a transition phase. As far as coach Gautam Gambhir is concerned, we will not take any decision on him as the World Cup is around the corner and his contract is till the 2027 World Cup. The BCCI will speak to selectors and team management going ahead, but there won’t be any knee-jerk action," a BCCI official told the Indian Express.
Post losing the second Test match to the Temba Bavuma-led side, Gambhir revealed that it was up to the BCCI to take a call on his future.
“It is up to the BCCI to decide. I’ve said it in my first press conference when I took over as the head coach. Indian cricket is important; I’m not important. And I sit here and say the same thing," Gambhir told reporters in the post-match press conference.
“And yes, people can keep forgetting about it. I’m the same guy who got results in England as well, with a young team. And I’m sure you guys will forget very soon, because a lot of people keep talking about New Zealand (home series whitewash last year). And I’m the same guy who won the Champions Trophy, and Asia Cup as well," he concluded.
