IND vs AUS: Ex-India cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath has revealed that Varun Chakravarthy is more important than Jasprit Bumrah for the way he performed in the T20I series against Australia. He had taken five wickets after playing in as many matches at a staggering average of 16.40 and a brilliant economy rate of 6.83.
On the other hand, Bumrah took three wickets after playing in five matches at an average of 26.33. Varun is the No.1 T20I bowler as he has taken 26 wickets after playing in 16 matches at a brilliant average of 13.96. In an interaction on Star Sports, Badrinath revealed that Chakravarthy has stopped runs during the powerplay or in the death overs.
He thinks that the star spinner is working at another level after returning to the national side.

"Numbers tell us that Varun Chakaravarthy is the No. 1 T20 bowler in the world. He is more valuable than even Bumrah. Whenever the runs are flowing in the powerplay or the middle overs or even in the 18th over, Varun is the go-to bowler. He has gone to a different level with his game. A superb comeback after being given a chance initially and getting dropped because of fitness. But in this second phase after his comeback, he has taken his game to the next level," Badrinath was quoted as saying on Star Sports.
'HUGE ASSET FOR INDIA'
He also called Chakravarthy a huge asset for the team and will play a huge role in helping the team defend the title at the 2026 T20 World Cup.
"He's a huge asset for India, in fact, even a weapon. In the future, with the T20 World Cup in India, he will be the most crucial factor. If Varun has a good day, there is a great chance the Indian team will have a good day," he added.
After making a comeback to the national team late last year, he has played in 23 matches and taken 43 wickets.
