Biggest Test Defeat For India: In just the span of 12 months, India have been humbled at home again. India faced their heaviest defeat (by runs) in Test history during the second and final match of the series against South Africa in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Off-spinner Simon Harmer bagged an exceptional 6-37 as South Africa completed a commanding 408-run victory over India and secured an emphatic 2-0 series sweep.
The previous most destructive defeat for India came in 2004 when the side was handed a 342-run loss to Australia in Nagpur.
Chasing 549, India were skittled out for 140 on day five's play, and seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored the highest with 54.
South Africa, the reigning World Test Championship winner, have won their maiden Test series in India since 2000. South Africa also set a new record for their biggest winning margin over India in Tests.
India’s biggest losses by runs margin in Test history:
1) by 408 runs vs South Africa, 2025 in Guwahati
2) by 342 runs vs Australia, 2004 in Nagpur
3) by 341 runs vs Pakistan, 2006 in Karachi
4) by an innings and 336 runs vs West Indies, 1958 in Kolkata
5) by 333 runs vs Australia, 2017 in Pune
After a 2-0 series whitewash, India now left to ponder over the questions as their fortress-like reputation when playing Tests at home suffers another big blow after their 3-0 loss to New Zealand last year.
