Legendary Indian captain MS Dhoni took the Chennai Super Kings fans by storm with a viral photo on Instagram, making an appearance in a Mumbai Indians shirt.

In an Instagram post shared by entrepreneur Arjun Vaidya, Dhoni was seen posing with a group outside a football pitch, and the influencer captioned it 'Football game with MS'. While being barefoot, Dhoni wore a black lower, but what caught the eyes of many was the white tank-top which had the MI logo and a couple of sponsors of the franchise.

It drew mixed reactions on social media. While MI fans rejoiced, CSK supporters were angry. Some fans even predicted a big potential transfer move ahead of the IPL 2026. Notably, Dhoni's presence is the main reason behind CSK's incredible fan following, and the former skipper has been in the association with the Men in Blue since IPL's inaugural season in 2008.

One user wrote, "Dream come true. At least off the field, Thala Dhoni wears the Mumbai Indians shirt."

Another said, "MS Dhoni wearing an MI jersey. 2025 is not a normal calendar year."

The CSK vs MI has been a massive rivalry in the IPL cricket over the years, and has seen social media wars during the time of their matches against each other.

Interestingly, Dhoni's move to CSK's arch-rivals, MI, is unlikely as of now, considering how he has already been involved in the team’s pre-season planning. It also shows that rivalries in cricket aren’t as passionate or hostile as other sports. Dhoni is certainly attached to CSK's yellow, but had to represent Rising Pune Supergiant during the two-year period when the team was banned.

"It was a very emotional moment…Since I have started playing T20 cricket, represented the Indian cricket team, Jharkhand team in a few tournaments and CSK for eight years, it was an emotional moment not to see myself in yellow. But at the same time as professionals, we have to move ahead and also not to prove to anyone but to prove a point to myself that I am making sure whatever I gave in for CSK, I am not leaving any inch that I am not giving for the Pune team," he had said at the time.

While there have been continuous speculations regarding MS Dhoni's possible IPL retirement over the past few years, the former India skipper once again kept things secret on his future at the end of IPL 2025.
