Pakistan’s Muhammad Shahzad created history on the opening day of the President’s Trophy Grade-1 match between Pakistan Television and Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy.
The 22-year-old smashed the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter, reaching the landmark in just 49 balls. In the process, he broke former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq’s 12-year-old record.
Shahzad was batting at No. 5 for Pakistan Television and walked in with his team in trouble at 34/3. Instead of allowing the pressure to build, he took the attack to the opposition and brought up his century in just 49 deliveries.
He eventually made 114 off 62 balls, hitting 12 fours and eight sixes before being dismissed by Zia-ul-Haq.

Shahzad Breaks Misbah’s Long-Standing Record
Misbah had set the previous record when he scored a 56-ball century against Australia in the second Test in Abu Dhabi in 2014.
That innings saw Misbah equal the record for the fastest Test century, previously held by West Indies great Viv Richards. New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum later broke that mark by scoring a 54-ball century against Australia in 2016.
Shahzad has now gone past the 56-ball mark in first-class cricket with his stunning 49-ball hundred.

The young batter also put together a 143-run partnership with Mohammad Taha, who contributed 43 runs from 72 balls.
From Age-Group Cricket To PSL
Shahzad has been on the domestic circuit for several years and has represented Pakistan at Under-16 and Under-19 level.
He was part of Pakistan’s squad at the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he played two matches and scored 27 runs.
He has also been part of the Multan Sultans and Islamabad United squads in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Shahzad made his PSL debut for Islamabad United in the 2025 season.
He played six matches but had limited opportunities with the bat, scoring 24 runs in four innings. His highest score was 24, while he was dismissed for a duck twice.
Earlier this year, Shahzad showed his batting ability in the National T20 Cup, where he scored two consecutive half-centuries for Multan Region.
Shahzad’s Domestic Cricket Numbers
Shahzad has now played 21 first-class matches, including the ongoing game. In 36 innings, he has scored 1,507 runs at an average of just over 47.
His first-class record includes six centuries and six fifties, while his strike rate in the format is in the mid-80s.
In List A cricket, Shahzad has scored 563 runs in 22 matches at an average of nearly 30 and a strike rate of around 90. He is yet to score a century in the format but has four half-centuries to his name.
He has also played 26 T20 matches, scoring 434 runs in 21 innings at an average of 22.84. His T20 record includes three half-centuries.
Shahzad's bowling career
Shahzad is a right-arm fast-bowling all-rounder who picked up 27 wickets in first-class cricket at an average of 25, including a five-wicket haul. He has also picked up five wickets in List A cricket and four in T20s.
