The International Cricket Council will reportedly introduce several new rule changes in international cricket, covering Test matches, ODIs and T20Is. The proposals are currently under discussion and may be approved at the ICC Board meeting scheduled in Ahmedabad on May 30.

According to Cricbuzz, one of the most interesting ideas being considered is the use of two different coloured balls in a Test match. The ICC is looking at the possibility of changing from the red ball to the pink ball if rain or bad light interrupts play and the match needs to continue under floodlights. However, this rule would only apply if both teams agree before the series starts.

Coaches are allowed to enter the field during drinks breaks in ODIs

The ICC is also thinking about allowing head coaches to enter the field during drinks breaks in ODI matches. Right now, only substitute players are allowed on the ground during these breaks. If the rule is approved, coaches will be able to speak directly with players and discuss tactics during the game.

ICC to shorten innings break in T20Is

Another proposed change involves T20 Internationals. The ICC wants to reduce the innings break from 20 minutes to 15 minutes. This would make the game move faster and give teams less time between innings.

Hawk-Eye technology access to on-field umpires

The governing body is also planning to give on-field umpires access to Hawk-Eye technology to help identify bowlers with suspect bowling actions during matches. The aim is to make checking illegal actions quicker and more accurate.

When will the new rules come into effect if approved?

If approved, these new rules are expected to come into effect from October 1.

The proposals were discussed during a virtual meeting of the ICC Chief Executives Committee. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who is currently the chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee, was also part of the discussion. So far, the ICC has not officially confirmed the changes or announced a final decision.
