India Test great Cheteshwar Pujara believes teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is unlikely to be included in India’s playing XI for the first T20I against England.

The five-match series begins on July 1 at Chester-le-Street, and many fans are eager to see whether the 15-year-old will get an opportunity against a strong England side in challenging away conditions. However, Pujara feels India are unlikely to change a top-order combination that played a major role in winning the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Speaking on Star Sports, Pujara said he expects Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan to continue as India’s top three batters.

“I don’t see any changes in India’s top order. Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan have done well, and both Samson and Kishan should be part of the playing XI,” Pujara said.

While he does not expect Sooryavanshi to feature in the opening game against England, Pujara believes the youngster’s chance will come sooner rather than later.

Before the England series, India will play two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast starting June 26. Sooryavanshi is expected to make his international debut during that series, especially with Ireland dealing with several injury concerns.

Pujara also feels that India could rotate players during the England series, which may open the door for the young batter.

“When the team starts rotating players, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will definitely get an opportunity. I believe he will play at least one match in the series,” he added.

India’s current top-order batters have strong credentials. Sanju Samson was named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup after scoring 321 runs in five innings at an incredible strike rate of nearly 200.

Ishan Kishan also enjoyed an excellent campaign, scoring 317 runs in nine matches at a strike rate above 193. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma finished the tournament on a high, smashing 52 off just 21 balls in the final against New Zealand. He currently remains the No.1-ranked batter in T20Is.

Pujara also shared his thoughts on vice-captain Tilak Varma’s batting position. Although Tilak impressed in the middle order during the World Cup, Pujara feels he has the ability to bat higher up the order as well.

According to Pujara, Tilak is versatile enough to play in the top three, but he has also shown that he can perform effectively at No. 5 or No. 6 whenever the team needs him.
