WPL 2026: Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament opener of WPL 2026 on 9th January in Navi Mumbai, as the BCCI had revealed the full schedule on Saturday. And on Thursday, Jayesh George, who is the chairman of WPL, revealed the venue of this tournament before the mega auction began.
The first phase of this league will be held in Navi Mumbai between January 9 to 17th, and then the second phase will be held in Baroda between January 19 and February 5, and the summit clash will also be held in Baroda. Twenty league stage matches will be held, which also includes the eliminator, which will be held on February 3, and the final will be held after two days.
During the WPL 2026 auction, 277 players had registered their names, of which 194 were Indians, and 83 were overseas players. Just 67 players were sold, of which 23 were overseas players. All five teams had spent a whopping amount of Rs 40.8 cr to buy the talented players. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side is the reigning champion as they had also won the title in the first season in 2023, whereas the Royal Challengers lifted the title in 2024.
