Engineering Admissions: Confusion and Delays

While the AP ICET counseling proceeds, the broader engineering admissions process in the state is currently facing considerable confusion and delays. The Department of Technical Education has announced the schedule for EAPSET counseling, but crucial decisions regarding fees remain unclear. Furthermore, the process of college affiliations for the 2025-26 academic year is still ongoing, adding to the uncertainty.

Another significant issue is that the State Higher Education Department has yet to issue Government Orders (GOs) approving the engineering seats sanctioned by AICTE. These vital processes—fee finalization, college affiliations, and GO issuance—ideally should be completed before students begin choosing their options. The delay has already led to the postponement of the EAPSET option process, reducing the selection window for students from nine to six days.

Fee FinaliSation and Seat Availability:

The issue of fee finalization is particularly critical for engineering admissions. While minimum and maximum fees for 2024-25 were set at Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 1.05 lakh respectively, based on Higher Education Commission recommendations, college managements have challenged these in court. The Higher Education Department has not yet issued a definitive decision for the current year, creating uncertainty as counseling approaches. Students need clear information on fees for each college and course on the website before selecting options.

This year, AICTE has sanctioned over 2 lakh engineering seats, with 1,89,748 EAPSET-qualified candidates, ensuring that all convener quota applicants are likely to secure seats. The computer science branch remains highly sought after, followed by ECE.
