CBSE Compliance and R3 Language Implementation Updates: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a follow-up circular regarding the mandatory implementation of the R3 language policy for students starting from Class 6. This initiative is in line with the CBSE Scheme of Studies 2026–27 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE-2023). While many affiliated schools have already updated their language choices on the OASIS (Online Affiliated School Information System) portal, the Board noted that several institutions are still lagging or have submitted choices that contradict official policy recommendations.
To ensure academic and administrative readiness, CBSE has granted schools an extension to finalize their arrangements. Schools that have not yet started teaching at least two native Indian languages under the R1, R2, R3 model are now mandated to commence these classes by July 1, 2026. This transition is designed to align school curricula with the specific competencies and curricular goals prescribed in the NCFSE-2023 guidelines.
What are the Mandatory Deadlines for OASIS Updates?
Updating the OASIS portal is a mandatory administrative requirement for all affiliated schools. Those who have not yet uploaded their R3 language choices must do so at the earliest. Furthermore, schools that previously submitted choices contrary to policy recommendations have been given a final opportunity to modify their details.
The absolute deadline for all OASIS portal modifications is May 31, 2026.
Where Can Schools Access R3 Textbooks and Materials?
For languages enumerated in the Constitution of India (scheduled languages), official R3 textbooks will be made available digitally on the NCERT and CBSE websites before July 1, 2026. If a school opts for a non-scheduled language, the Board advises following SCERT textbooks or other state-recognised materials.
In such cases, schools must ensure the curriculum strictly adheres to the competencies defined in the NCFSE-2023 annexures.
