Return to Pre-Pandemic Evaluation Standards

Minister Bangarappa has clarified important changes to the evaluation process for the 2025 examinations. "The grace marks policy from the Covid period will not be implemented. We are reverting to the original system, where students scoring a minimum of 175 marks across all subjects are eligible for grace marks," he stated. Additionally, the passing threshold has been restored to 35 marks, up from the temporarily reduced 25 marks during the pandemic period.

This return to pre-pandemic standards follows last year's concerning results, which showed a significant decline in the overall pass percentage. The 2024 results recorded a 73.40% pass rate, down from 83.89% in 2023 and 85.13% in 2022. This decline brought the pass rate closer to pre-pandemic levels of 73.70% recorded in 2019.

Last Year's Performance Overview:

The 2024 SSLC results, which were declared on May 9, revealed several concerning statistics. A total of 78 schools across Karnataka recorded zero percent results, including three schools in Bengaluru. In response to the declining pass rates, the board had temporarily enhanced normalization by increasing grade marks from 10% to 20% and reducing qualifying marks to 25%.

Only one student achieved the perfect score of 625 marks in 2024, compared to four students who reached this milestone in 2023. These statistics highlight the challenges faced by students and educators during the transition from pandemic-era education practices back to traditional teaching and evaluation methods.
