Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated his fellow party leaders and alliance partners after the BJP-led NDA crossed the majority mark and is all set to register a resounding victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Election 2024. PM Modi said that people have placed their faith in the ruling alliance for a third consecutive term, describing NDA's expected majority in the Lok Sabha polls as a historic feat in India's history. He also lauded the alliance's workers for their hard work and said words will never do justice to their exceptional efforts.
"People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India’s history. I bow to the Janata Janardan for this affection and assure them that we will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people. I also salute all our Karyakartas for their hard work. Words will never do justice to their exceptional efforts," PM Modi tweeted.

PM Modi's message came after election results showed that though the BJP was set to fall short of a majority in Lok Sabha, its alliance had won or was leading in around 290 seats, above the majority figure of 272. According to ECI data, the BJP has won 144 seats and is leading on 96 while the Congress has won 58 seats and leading on 41.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP is ahead in 293 seats, while the INDIA bloc is leading in 232 seats, indicating significant gains for the latter, according to the latest ECI data. The Congress secured only 52 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
PM Modi defeated Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of 1,52,513 votes on the Varanasi seat. PM Modi received 6,12,970 votes while Ajay Rai received 4,60,457 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Ather Jamal Lari was in the third position with 33,766 votes. No prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru has returned to power for a third consecutive term.
The BJP had won a majority on its own in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, securing 282 seats in 2014 and improving its tally to 303 seats in the 2019 elections. Setting a target of winning 370 seats in the 2024 general elections, the BJP-led NDA, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contested the Lok Sabha elections for a third consecutive term in office. The polls were held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
