Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi congratulated his party workers and INDIA bloc members after the vote-counting trends predicted the coalition’s impressive show against the BJP. Addressing a press conference at the AICC, Rahul said the biggest step had been taken to ‘save’ the constitution. On questions about consulting with JDU and TDP over the formation of the INDIA bloc government, he said a meeting of alliance members will be held on Wednesday to decide the further course of action.

Addressing the same question, Congress Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge said the party will not reveal its strategy before talking to its alliance partners.

"Till we don't talk to our alliance partners and the new partners who are going to ally with them, we will talk to them as well and see how we can make a majority. If I say all the strategies here, Modiji will become clever," he said.

The Congress leader hailed the voters of Uttar Pradesh as the INDIA bloc is currently leading in 44 of 80 seats. He also acknowledged the role of Priyanka Gandhi Wadra for the impressive show in UP.

Notably, the INDIA bloc is currently leading in 230 of 543 seats across the country. The NDA has, however, surpassed the majority mark but the BJP hasn’t yet been able to surpass the magic number on its own. Rahul Gandhi has registered victory in both Raebareli and Wayanad, the two seats he contested in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He won Wayanad by a margin of 3,64,422 votes and is leading in Raebareli by over 4,00,000 votes. As per the law, he could only retain one seat. On choosing a seat from the two, Rahul Said he had not thought about it and will take decision after deliberations.

"I have won from Rae Bareli and Wayanad and I thank the voters. I need to decide which seat I will retain. I haven't decided yet," he said.

As the BJP seems to be falling short of the majority mark amid the counting of votes in the Lok Sabha polls, the NDA allies appear to be in a ‘kingmaker’ position. The current political scenario has now put the NDA allies, especially the Telugu Desam Party and Janata Dal (United), in a decisive position. As per reports, PM Modi has dialled TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu amid the troublesome situation of the BJP.
