"In protest against the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal will campaign to seek blessings for him and to seek votes for AAP candidates. Sunita Kejriwal, a retired IRS officer, is slowly emerging out of the shadows to assume a bigger role in the party. She is trying to boost AAP's campaigning which has been affected by the chief minister's arrest in a money laundering case. AAP national convener, who is currently in ED custody, was arrested by the probe agency on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal would remain in judicial custody till May 7.
Atishi accused the BJP of orchestrating Arvind Kejriwal's arrest to impede his campaign for the Lok Sabha polls, asserting that the move has backfired. Despite the setback, AAP is contesting the ongoing general elections in alliance with the Congress in Delhi and independently in other states. In Delhi, AAP has fielded its candidates in East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi and New Delhi seats.
In Gujarat, the party is contesting two seats---Bharuch and Bhavnagar-- while in Haryana, it contesting from Kurukshetra. In Punjab, AAP is contesting all 13 seats without an alliance with the Congress.
Since her husband's arrest, Sunita Kejriwal has been a channel between Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leadership, communicating his messages to party members and the public. She has also actively participated in rallies for the INDIA parties, advocating for AAP's guarantees, including free power for the poor and improved healthcare and education nationwide, if the INDIA bloc secures power at the Centre.
