Ashoke Pandit's '72 Hoorain' had high hopes at the box office, after looking at the successful journey of 'The Kashmir Files' and 'The Kerala Story' at the box office. The film sparked several controversies ahead of its release, and was accused of 'hurting religious sentiments of a community.'

However, '72 Hoorain' turned out to be a huge box office failure and only was able to collect Rs 18 Lakh on day 5. The film minted roughly Rs 0.35 crore on its opening day, taking the overall box office collection around Rs 1.60 crore. Meanwhile, '72 Hoorain' witnessed an overall occupancy of 7.84 percent in the Hindi belt.

The film features Pavan Malhotra and Aamir Bashir in lead roles and already received mixed reviews from the critics with multiple controversies ahead of its release. The film is produced by Ashoke Pandit and is based on terrorism and people who think it is their staircase to heaven but is a path of religious conversion followed by terrorism.

'72 Hoorain' premiered at the 50th IFFI 2019 and won the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal-special mention for promoting peace and intercultural dialogue. The story of '72 Hoorain' takes place at an extremist training center and revolves around Bilal and Hakim receiving instructions in the name of Allah, as after that they will be rewarded with 72 beautiful virgins in heaven.

Luring them with this mystery, the duo follows the instructions and conduct a terror attack in Mumbai, where Hakim and Bilal are surprised not to end up in the arms of beautiful virgins but face the wrath of hell.
