In 2005, Shaad Ali's blockbuster heist comedy Bunty Aur Babli featured one of Bollywood's most iconic dance numbers, Kajra Re. The song, performed by Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, became a cultural phenomenon. Notably, Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek a few years after the film's release.

As Bunty Aur Babli celebrated its 19th anniversary this week, Amitabh Bachchan took a nostalgic trip down memory lane. He posted a still from Kajra Re on social media platform X, featuring himself, Abhishek, and Aishwarya dancing in perfect sync. Amitabh captioned the post, "The song became so popular that it still regenerates attention and love. And the best moments with the song, Bhaiyu, were when we performed this live on stage," accompanied by namaste and laughing emojis.

The internet was quick to notice that Amitabh did not mention Aishwarya in his post, even though she was a significant part of the song's success. One user commented, "Sorry to say but 'Kajra Re' was all about Aishwarya. Both of you were just supporting dancers in that song." Another added, "But the credit for its popularity goes not to you but to Aishwarya. If it were only you, it would have been popular, but because of Aishwarya, it became the most popular."

Others echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Aishwarya's crucial role in the song's appeal. One user remarked, "Apart from ā€˜Bhaiyu,’ there was ā€˜Bhaiyi’ in the song too. She is the biggest reason for the song's success. No one watches the song for ā€˜Bhaiyu’ or ā€˜Senior Bhaiyu.’" Another bluntly stated, "Both you and your son are irrelevant in this song. Without Aishwarya, no one would watch it."

In 2006, Amitabh and Abhishek performed Kajra Re at the Filmfare Awards, where Aishwarya joined them on stage, making the performance even more memorable.

Bunty Aur Babli, produced by Yash Raj Films, starred Rani Mukerji in the lead role opposite Abhishek. The film's sequel, directed by Varun V Sharma in 2022, featured Rani, Saif Ali Khan (who replaced Abhishek as Bunty), Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh and Pankaj Tripathi. Unfortunately, the sequel did not fare well at the box office.
