Assi OTT Release: Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming courtroom drama Assi is set to release in cinemas on February 20, 2026. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film has already created strong buzz ahead of its theatrical launch. Now, details about its OTT release platform have also been revealed.
According to reports, Assi will stream on ZEE5 after completing its theatrical run. While the makers have not officially confirmed the exact streaming date, industry reports suggest that the film may arrive on the platform around April 17, 2026. The film is expected to follow the standard 56-day theatrical window before making its digital debut.
Assi Plot: Assi is a legal thriller inspired by real events. The story centres on Parima, played by Kani Kusruti, a school teacher who survives a brutal gang rape. She is left near a railway track after the attack. The film follows her legal fight for justice.
Taapsee Pannu plays Raavi, a determined and skilled lawyer who takes up Parima’s case. The story focuses on the courtroom battle and highlights the challenges victims face within the legal system. The film deals with serious themes including sexual violence, social injustice and flaws within the judicial process.
Assi Cast And Crew Details: Apart from Taapsee Pannu and Kani Kusruti, the film features Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Vinay, Parima’s husband. Kumud Mishra plays Kartik, while Manoj Pahwa appears as Deepraj. Revathy plays the judge in the courtroom proceedings. Veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa also have special appearances. The casting has been handled by well-known casting director Mukesh Chhabra.

Taapsee Pannu Opens Up On Women-Led Films: In a recent interview, Taapsee Pannu spoke about the challenges faced by women-led and unconventional films. She said such films are "on the verge of extinction." She explained that commercial cinema often follows a fixed formula and films like Assi do not always fit into that pattern. Taapsee also rejected the idea that such films will always find a safe space on streaming platforms. According to her, OTT platforms are now focusing on attracting mass audiences. She believes that unless audiences actively support women-led stories, these kinds of films may struggle to survive.
