Rishab Shetty's much-anticipated prequel to Kantara, titled Kantara: Chapter 1, has found itself embroiled in controversy. The film, which is currently being shot in the forested region of Gavigudda, Karnataka, has drawn criticism from locals who claim the production has caused environmental damage and disrupted their lives.

As per a report by India Today, Sanna Swamy, a former Zilla Panchayat member, accused the filmmakers of harming the local ecosystem. Swamy alleged that the use of explosives during filming has disturbed animals and birds in the area. He highlighted the ongoing struggles of farmers dealing with wild elephant attacks, stating, "Despite the Supreme Court’s directive to protect forests, officials have been negligent. Immediate action must be taken to prevent further damage."

The situation escalated when locals confronted the film crew on set, leading to an altercation. A young man from the area was reportedly injured during the clash and had to be hospitalized at Crawford Hospital in Sakleshpur. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Yesalur Police Station. Neither Rishab Shetty nor the production team has officially addressed the allegations. Fans of the actor-director are now awaiting a statement to clarify the situation.

Kantara: Chapter 1 serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which featured Rishab Shetty in a dual role as Shiva and his father, a Daiva Kola performer. The film’s teaser, released in November, hints at a gripping narrative. In the teaser, Rishab’s character asks if viewers can see the "light" that bridges the past and future, setting the tone for an intriguing story.
