Actor Imran Khan was detained in Mumbai during demonstrations in support of the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He was among the 400 protesters detained at the cite.
Earlier, at least 200 people, including members of Tushar Gandhi-led Hum Bharat Ke Log and CPI(M) supporters, were detained for assembling without permission to show solidarity with the CJP’s protest in Delhi.
An official said that police were in the process of registering FIRs against those detained.
Separately, workers of Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) were detained during a CJP solidarity protest near Hutatma Chowk in south Mumbai.
Security tightened across Mumbai
Police strengthened security across Mumbai, deploying additional personnel, including women officers, at Shivaji Park in Dadar to prevent CJP members from holding a demonstration.
Officials cited a Bombay High Court order stating that August Kranti Maidan was not a designated protest venue, saying preventive measures were necessary to maintain law and order.
