Bigg Boss Tamil Season 9 has been embroiled in controversy just one week after its premiere. The reality program should be prohibited in Tamil Nadu, according to the political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which claims it denigrates Tamil culture. In a statement, party MLA Velmurugan highlighted several situations that were judged unsuitable for a broad audience. On Tuesday, political leaders called a press conference to defend their request for a ban, arguing that certain sequences from the reality program denigrated Tamil culture.
Political Leaders Seek Ban On Bigg Boss Tamil 9
"Bigg Boss is showing activities that is targeting Tamil culture and tradition, and it is trying to destroy the future of students. Disgusting body movements, kissing scenes and bedroom scenes, which cannot be viewed in the presence of a mature girl or children, are being shown. They have not shown sexual scenes until now," read the statement.
Velumurugan stated during the press conference that he has nothing against TV shows in general, saying that some of them do a good job of promoting culture. He asserted, however, that Bigg Boss broadcasts 'vile acts' that 'destroy culture, ethics, and values' of Tamil Nadu's populace. "The script writers don’t care if the Tamil community suffers any harm. They are running the programme on the basis that money is most important."
He went on to say that the show features obscene body language, kissing scenes, and bedroom scenes that are inappropriate to watch with young children or an adult girl around. The political leader added, "My question is if Vijay TV should make money by continuing to host such a disgusting, low-class, indecent programme."
Attention-Seeking Motion Submitted
Velumurugan warned - "I have approached the Speaker with an attention-seeking motion. If the Speaker does not admit the motion for discussion and if the Chief Minister,as well as the IT and Broadcast departments, do not ban it, we will stage a major protest inside Bigg Boss arena and at Vijay Television, along with several thousand women."
