Actress Gautami Kapoor recently found herself at the centre of controversy after making a bold remark about modern parenting. During an interview, she revealed that she had once considered gifting her 16-year-old daughter a "sex-toy" for her birthday — a statement that sparked intense backlash and trolling online.
In the interview, Gautami Kapoor shared her perspective on parenting and female empowerment, stating that she wants her daughter to experience everything in life — including aspects many women are often deprived of, such as understanding and embracing their own pleasure. She expressed concern that numerous women go through life without ever truly experiencing the joys of their own bodies.
Gautami also mentioned that her daughter, who is now 19, appreciated her mother’s thought process and openness. The actress revealed that while she never actually went through with the unconventional gift, her daughter valued the intent and the honesty behind the conversation.

However, Gautami’s remarks didn’t sit well with many netizens. Social media was quick to react, with some users heavily criticizing her views. One user wrote, “Oh, urban India's feminism? Just a fancy word for messing around! Thank God the daughter has brains, unlike her mom who's high-fiving the host like they're some cool kids — but they’re just cheerleading for creeps.” Another sarcastically commented, “Best Feminist Mother of the Year Award goes to Gautami Kapoor.” A person also wrote, "This is how it starts. The moral degradation of culture.. starts at home. This is why people say, mother is the most important person in your life, and when mothers actually like this, that is when society will collapse. I think modern wokeism and Feminazism have been very successful.. everywhere in media be it social media, web series, reels," while others dropped similar comments.
Gautami Kapoor is married to actor Ram Kapoor, who recently faced controversy after being barred from promoting his show Mistry due to making sexually inappropriate remarks during promotional interviews. The couple shares two children together — a daughter, Sia Kapoor, and a son, Aks Kapoor.
