Konkona Sen Sharma believes that achieving a harmonious work-life balance can be challenging, but it's possible through open conversations, some protest, and adjusting to make it work. As an actress and working mother, she's experienced this struggle firsthand. Fortunately, she's had supportive directors and producers who've helped her navigate the demands of her career while prioritising her personal life. She even shed light on the ongoing debate on 'short working hours' surrounding Deepika Padukone.
In a conversation with PTI, Konkana Sen said, "I know how the industry works and that I'm not going to actually get away with very short working hours. The kind of projects I do are small or medium budget, so I have to plan my life accordingly, whether it's (with) my son, my father, my mom or someone who's come down to help me out because one does need a bit of a community or a village. The village is disappearing. So, it's a bit tough."
"It's not like I've perfected it. We seek to maintain this balance every day, and we feel less and more every day," she further added. "This is how we've (built) better practices — through conversations, discussions, unions, a little bit of protest, and a little bit of adjusting. Earlier, many things were much worse and many things have become better," said Sharma.
On Friday, Deepika Padukone broke her silence on the ongoing debate surrounding her demands to be included in a film. She said in a conversation with CNBC TV18, "By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it's never made headlines."
"I don't want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends," she added.
