Ranveer Singh is celebrated for his high-energy roles in movies like Gunday, Gully Boy, and Simmba, among others. Now, the actor is gearing up for one of his most exciting projects, Dhurandhar. Directed by Uri: The Surgical Strike filmmaker Aditya Dhar, the film is expected to be a gripping espionage drama and marks the first-ever collaboration between the actor and the director. Earlier reports hinted that the teaser of Dhurandhar will be launched as a special birthday surprise for Ranveer Singh’s fans on July 6, when he turns 40. And now, recent reports confirm that the makers have also finalised the release date for the movie.
The movie Dhurandhar is reportedly set to hit cinemas on 5th December 2025. The team was previously considering two release dates—December 5 and January 9—but they’ve now locked in the earlier option unless there’s a last-minute change. According to a report in Pinkvilla, “Around 25 days of Dhurandar shoot remains, which will be wrapped up by early September. The post-production work is going on in tandem; in fact, all the shot portions have already been lined up and edited. The makers will have their edit locked by October end and opt for a 45-day marketing campaign, starting from Diwali.”

Is Dhurandhar Based On A True Story?
The Dhurandhar movie’s plot revolves around real-life covert operations led by India’s current National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval. The film is set during the 1970s and 1980s and follows the journey of one of India’s first secret agents, who helped shape the nation’s intelligence network. Ranveer Singh plays the role of this undercover agent, while R. Madhavan will be seen portraying Ajit Doval. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and Yami Gautam in key roles, making it a truly star-studded affair.
Box Office Clash: Dhurandhar vs. Raja Saab vs. Romeo
Interestingly, Dhurandhar will clash at the box office with two other big releases—Raja Saab, starring Prabhas, and Romeo, featuring Shahid Kapoor. However, recent rumours suggest that Romeo might shift its release to January 2026 to avoid the competition.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar will also mark Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited return to the big screen after the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani in 2023. With a powerful cast, a gripping storyline, and high expectations, Dhurandhar is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about films of 2025.
