Vidya Balan’s first movie Parineeta has completed twenty years in Bollywood. It was released on June 10, 2005. The movie starred Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt, and was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Vidhu Vinod Chopra was the producer of the film, who also found ‘his Parineeta’ in Vidya Balan. In a recent interview, Vidya shared that she was attending an Enrique Iglesias concert in Mumbai when she received a call from Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The producer instructed her to walk out of the concert as he had something to share. “You are my Parineeta,” said the producer, and the rest is history!

Vidya Balan on Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s misconception about her

The Dirty Picture actress explained how the team was trying to capture the first shot of Parineeta and record it as her audition because they wanted an indescribable emotion. Till that time, Vidya’s frustration was already visible on her face, especially in her eyes. “I was so frustrated by then because it wasn’t just Parineeta, but also three years of not working before that. I’d reached my wit’s end. Vinod Chopra said he saw anger in my eyes in that shot. He said, ‘Tu mujhe gaali de rahi thi, mujhe dikh raha tha’ (laughs). That’s not true, but my frustration and anger would’ve shown. That’s the reason he gave me the part,” she expressed.

Vidya Balan on equation with Saif Ali Khan

Vidya Balan opened up about her journey and how it was working alongside Saif Ali Khan in a recent interview with Screen. The actress said, “Saif and I didn’t have any conversations on that film. We hardly spoke with each other. Also, Saif was going through some personal stuff then (divorce from Amrita Singh) so he was preoccupied between takes. It’s not like we struck a friendship.”

Talking about having a good chemistry with Sanjay Dutt

The actress praised her co-star Sanjay Dutt and said, “I think maybe that also helped the chemistry in the film. I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it a million times again, when I say superstar, for me, it means Sanjay Dutt. He’s just larger than life. He’s just so wonderful, I absolutely love him.”

Parineeta, a musical romance film, was an adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name. Apart from Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Vidya Balan, the star cast included Raima Sen, Dia Mirza, and Sabyasachi Chakrabarty.
