The controversy between Karan Johar and Yami Gautam stems from alleged industry exclusion. It is believed that KJo allegedly ignored Yami during earlier stages of her career. This happened during the promotions of Kaabil when the filmmaker invited Hrithik Roshan to Koffee With Karan, but asked that Yami Gautam not attend, as she was not considered a "big enough" star at the time. At the time, Hrithik reportedly declined the invitation in solidarity with his co-star.
