Ramayana is one of the highly-anticipated projects of the year 2024. The movie will star Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in lead roles. Amid anticipation, Ramanand Sagar’s grandson, Amrit Sagar has reacted to the movie stating that ‘nobody has a copyright on Ramayan’. The movie is directed by filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari.
Ramanand Sagar's Gradson Reacts To Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana
In a conversation with Indian Express, Amrit Sagar said, “I feel that Ramayan should be made by everybody, why not? Nobody has a copyright on Ramayana. My only thing with that is to do it honestly. Don’t try to make the Ramayana like ‘Now I will make the Ramayana through this person’s perspective, or that person’s perspective. Ramayan is not that. It is the story of Ram, that is why it is titled Ramayan. Ramleelas have been happening in this country for centuries. And they follow the story completely.”
Interestingly, Sunil Lehri, who played Laxman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana, recently commented on Ranbir Kapoor's upcoming role as Lord Ram. He questioned if audiences would accept Ranbir in this role, especially after his performance in Animal.
Sunil Lahri told Hindustan Times, “From the poster, I liked his look. It’s very nice and since he’s so smart, he will look perfect in that role. But, I don’t know how much people will accept him as Ram. He has to crush his earlier performances and come out with this. And especially, after doing something like Animal recently, it will be very difficult for people to see him in such an opposite role as Lord Ram.”
The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, KGF star Yash as Raavan, and reportedly Sunny Deol as Hanuman, though this isn't confirmed yet. While the release date for Ramayana hasn't been announced, it's expected to hit theatres in 2027.
