The makers of the upcoming film The Kerala Story have been caught in the eye of the storm. The film has sparked several controversies ahead of its theatrical release tomorrow, on May 5, 2023.
In a new update, the makers of The Kerala Story have now tweaked the number of missing women in the movie from 32,000 to 3. The same is now being reflected in the updated description on the official trailer of the film on YouTube.
“A spine-chilling, never told before true story – revealing a dangerous conspiracy that has been hatched against India. The Kerala Story is a compilation of the true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala,” read the new description of The Kerala Story trailer on YouTube.
Directed by Vipul Amrutalal Shah, The Kerala Story stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani in the lead roles.
Several sections have been against the theatrical release of The Kerala Story. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain pleas seeking stay on the release of the film in theatres.
On Tuesday, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind approached the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release of the movie stating that The Kerala Story was likely to “cause hatred and enmity between different sections of society in India.”

“The message the movie imparts is that non-Muslim young women are being lured into converting to Islam by their classmates and subsequently, trafficked to West Asia where they are forced to join terrorist organisations,” the plea by the Islamic organisation stated.
It further added, “The movie gives the impression that apart from extremist clerics who radicalise people, ordinary Muslim youngsters, their classmates, also play an instrumental role in luring non-Muslims and radicalising them by posing as friendly and good-natured, in accordance with instructions given by extremist scholars.”
Earlier in a statement, Vipul Shah spoke about his directorial ‘The Kerala Story’ and said, “The film is an amalgamation of years of research and true stories which have never been dared to be told before, it will uncover many hidden truths that have been hidden for long. It will uncover the dangerous threat radicalisation poses to the women of our nation and will create awareness about this conspiracy being hatched against India.”
