Jammu and Kashmir:  A BJP leader and former Sarpanch was killed, whereas two tourists from Jaipur were injured in two separate terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. In the first attack, which took place in Anantnag's Yannar area, a couple was injured after terrorists opened fire upon them, Kashmir Zone Police said. The injured - Farha, a resident of Jaipur and her spouse Tabrez - have been shifted to a hospital for treatment, the statement of police stated. In a separate firing incident within an hour of the Anantnag attack, terrorists opened fire on a civilian in Shopian. The injured civilian has been identified as BJP leader and former village headman Aijaz Ahmad. He was taken to the hospital after the attack where he succumbed to his injuries. According to the Kashmir Zone Police, the attack took place in the Heerpora area of Shopian.

Both the areas have been cordoned off and search operations launched to nab the perpetrators behind the attack, police said. 

"Terrorists fired upon and injured a lady Farha, resident of Jaipur and spouse Tabrez at Yannar, Anantnag. The injured were evacuated to the hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off," Kashmir Police zone said in a post on X.

According to Aaj Tak, terrorists targeted a tourist camp in Pahalgam in which a couple from Jaipur sustained bullet injuries. The couple has been admitted to the hospital in serious condition, the report suggested.

In the second attack on Mughal Road in Shopian's Herpora area, ex-Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh succumbed to bullet injuries.

The attack came two weeks after terrorists opened fire at an Indian Air Force convoy in Jammu Kashmir's Poonch, killing one personnel and injuring four others.

PDP Leader Mehbooba Mufti Condemns Terrorist Attack

Commenting on the incident, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said in an X post, "We condemn today's attack in Pahalgam, where two tourists were injured, followed by an attack on a Sarpanch in Heerpora, Shopian. The timing of these attacks is concerning, especially as elections in South Kashmir are being delayed without reason. This is particularly worrying because the Government of India keeps claiming normalcy here."

Farooq, Omar Abdullah Reacts

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah also condemned the terrorist attacks in Anantnag and Shopian. They stated that such acts of brutality are serious obstacles to achieving peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
