Bairabi–Sairang Project: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited Bairabi-Sairang railway line project in Mizoram. The railway project will connect several northeastern regions to the other parts of the country and will also boost the financial growth in these regions. The prime minister also flaged off three trains, which will connect Sairang station to West Bengal, Delhi, and Assam. Sairang is just a few kilometers away from the capital city, Aizawl, and the operation of the Rajdhani Express train to Delhi's Anand Vihar will improve the connectivity. Earlier in a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi asserted that the central government is dedicated to inclusive growth in the northeastern states.

Bairabi–Sairang Project: Important details

- The project is 51.38 kilometers long and passes through some of the challenging hilly regions in the Northeast.

- The key project includes 48 tunnels, 142 bridges, and several overbridges and underbridges. The railway informed that bridge number 196 is even taller than Qutub Minar.

- The project was built with a cost of Rs 8,070 crore and is likely to boost the tourism sector of the state.

- Rajdhani Express will operate between Sairang and Anand Vihar. The railway informed that the journey will take about 43 kilometers and will improve the connectivity.

- The project will improve connectivity between Mizoram and West Bengal, leading to more opportunities for the residents of the state.

- Earlier on Friday, Mizoram Governor and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the project will transform the connectivity of the state.

Earlier on Friday, PM Modi stated that the development of Northeastern states is a priority of the NDA government, adding that several other projects will be announced in the upcoming months. "Over the next few days, on 13th, 14th and 15th September, I will be attending programmes in Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal and Bihar which are aimed at boosting ‘Ease of Living.’ These projects will have a very positive impact on people’s lives, especially towards boosting connectivity, job creation and more," PM Modi stated in a post on X.
