Delhi-NCR Travel: Toll Collection To Continue Post July 2 Deadline; Over 1 Lakh Faridabad, Gurugram, Palwal Commuters Hit

Praveen Kaushik, Faridabad: Commuters travelling to and from Faridabad, Gurugram, and Sohna will now have to pay toll tax at four toll plazas. Previously, the deadline for tax collection at all four toll plazas was July 2, but the government has now extended it indefinitely. This means toll tax will continue to be collected here until further notice. This has dealt a blow to not only Faridabad and Gurugram but also to over 100,000 drivers travelling to and from Palwal and Delhi.

Toll Collection Was To Be Stopped From July 2

The operation of all four toll plazas was originally scheduled until midnight on June 12. However, following the government's new order, it was extended until July 2.

Both toll plazas, operated by the Public Works Department (PWD), have been facing widespread speculation about their closure due to the expiration of their contracts. Local residents, industrialists, and public representatives have long been demanding the closure of the Bandhwadi toll plaza in particular.

Badkhal MLA Dhanesh Adalkhah also wrote to the Chief Minister urging the abolition of tolls. He said that the traffic jams at toll plazas affect thousands of motorists daily and waste both time and fuel.

Bandhwari toll plaza, established around the year 2009 on the Gurugram-Faridabad road, was started with the aim of recovering the cost of road construction and maintenance.

Long Queues In Morning And Evening

Over time, this toll has become a source of inconvenience for the public. Long queues are common during the morning and evening commutes. Ambulances, school buses, and office workers are often stuck in the traffic jams.

A mahapanchayat was held at the Bandhwari toll on June 21. People also demonstrated demanding the removal of the Pali Crusher Zone and the Pakhal toll plaza on the Ballabhgarh-Sohna Road.

A large number of people from various areas, including Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal, and Noida, participated. Charandeep Singh, Director of the Public Works Department, Gurugram, stated that the government's order has been issued.
