Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who is under investigation in a gold smuggling case, is set to part ways with her husband, Jatin Hukkeri. In a recent press conference, Hukkeri announced that he had decided to separate from Rao and would soon file for divorce.

Rao, the daughter of Karnataka DGP (Police Housing Corporation) K Ramachandra Rao, was arrested on March 3 at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport with 14.5 kg of gold in her possession. She was detained while returning from Dubai.

Hukkeri claimed that he had been enduring pain and trauma since he got married to the actress and thus had decided to separate.

“Since the day we got married, I have been enduring pain and distress. Today, I have made the decision to file for divorce," Times Now quoted him as saying.

Ranya Rao Gold Haul

Authorities had been monitoring Kannada actress Ranya Rao due to her frequent international travel. Their suspicions grew when it was discovered that she had made four trips to Dubai within just 15 days and had taken over 10 international trips this year, each time returning with gold.

During her arrest at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on March 3, officers found 14.5 kg of gold in her possession. A significant portion was concealed within her clothing, while some gold bars were hidden inside her belt. She was also reportedly wearing a substantial amount of gold to evade detection.

Investigators revealed that Rao exploited an official protocol meant for bureaucrats and senior officials. She was allegedly escorted out of the airport without undergoing physical screening, allowing her to smuggle gold undetected.

Bail Rejected

A court in Bengaluru rejected the bail plea of Ranya Rao last week. This is the third occasion when Rao’s bail application was rejected. On March 14, a Special Court for Economic Offences denied her request for bail. According to reports, cited by News 18, her legal team is now preparing to approach the Karnataka High Court.
