Gurpreet Gogi Death News: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Ludhiana West, Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, died late on Friday night in what police suspect to be an "accidental firing", reported PTI on Saturday. Earlier, reports claimed that he died after being shot at
Joint Commissioner of Police Jaskaran Singh Teja said the bullet pierced Gogi's temple and he was rushed to the local Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM at Gogi's house. Teja said the bullet was fired from Gogi's licensed pistol.
"According to his family members, it was an accidental fire," the JCP said.
According to the information received, MLA Gogi had returned home after attending an event and was having dinner in his room when the sound of gunshots was heard. Listening to the sound of a gunshot, MLA Gogi's wife, Dr Sukhchain Kaur Gogi, immediately reached the room and found Gogi lying in a pool of blood. He was quickly brought to DMCH Hospital by car.

As soon as the incident was reported, Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Chahal arrived at DMC Hospital. Soon after, DCP Shubham Agrawal, ADCPC Ramandeep Bhullar, and ACP Akashi Jain also reached the hospital. A large number of police personnel were deployed in the DMC emergency and its surroundings.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the information, AAP workers and Gogi supporters began arriving at the hospital.
The police stated that the body had been placed in the DMCH mortuary. The investigation is ongoing, and a post-mortem will be carried out to gather further information.
Several political leaders expressed shock over Gogi's death. They are reaching his residence in Ludhiana to express condolences.
"My deepest condolences to the grieving family during this difficult time. May they find the strength to endure this painful loss. I pray to the Almighty that his noble soul rests in eternal peace," Punjab AAP president Aman Arora said in a post on X.
Who Was Gurpreet Gogi?
Gurpreet Bassi Gogi was known by the name Gurpreet. His supporters also called him Gogi. He was the MLA from the Ludhiana West (Ludhiana MLA Passes Away) constituency in Punjab. In the 2022 assembly elections, he won from this constituency.
In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Gurpreet Singh Gogi received approximately 40,000 votes from the Ludhiana West constituency. The Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan secured second place, while Mahishendra Singh Grewal from the Shiromani Akali Dal finished third.
